Monday Monday – Running CAN Be Fun

I’ve been running more lately in preparation for the Nike Half Marathon.  If you know me then you know that training for a half marathon is not something I normally do.  Generally speaking I make sure I’ve got a couple of 6 and 8 mile runs under my belt before the big event (or maybe 1) and then I show up and see what happens.   This time – I’m actually running more!

I had my longest week last week – 28 miles.  whoa!  That’s huge for me.  To what do I attribute my willingness to step it up?  Running with friends!  That’s right – my friends Dana and  Maggs have  invited me to join them and it’s like a whole new world opening up for me.

First of all, I was always convinced I couldn’t talk and run at the same time.  I was also convinced that 10 minute miles would kill me.  Wrong, wrong, wrong… I can run 10 minute miles and chat JUST LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!  Color me stunned. I ran with DPR and Jenny and Carrie in Coeur d’Alene but I think I was so worried about being the slowpoke I just didn’t get the fun out of it.   In the last 2 weeks the whole fun factor has revealed itself and I think I might actually have a decent race on the 19th.

So – if you are like me and you  see running as something you have to do to get from T2 to the finish line try running with friends.  12 miles goes by like nothing and it’s fun!

  1. I am pretty positive that I would never even have run my first half-marathon if it hadn’t been for running with friends!

I need to start doing this…running longer and with friends!
You put me to shame with your mileage!

“Running as something you have to do to get from T2 to the finish line…” Boy, you really have transitioned into a triathlete, haven’t you?

Is this your third Nike half? I tried to get into the half this year, but didn’t win the lottery. So I’m training for the Big Sur/Monterey Bay half, which is beautiful but no Tiffany medal. 😦

    Good luck with your race!

  4. I remember fond tales of running from you before the tri bug bit you so hard 🙂 But I’m glad you’ve rediscovered some fun in it!
The 19th should be a good time. Looking forward to seeing you then.

I would have never started running if not for my friends. Talking? they do most of it, I’m busy gasping for air, I’ll get there.

I’m still not getting your feeds. What is up with that? I’m starting to think it is your tri news widget. sigh. ugh ugh ugh.
