Hump Day Miscellany – brrrr….

1). The Swim – when I take a shower I often find it difficult to turn off the water and get out. I love the feel of hot water and steam and I can stand in there all day just day dreaming until I look like a human prune. This morning in the pool I had that same experience when it was really time to get out and get on with the day. In spite of having a hard set involving swimming repeat hypoxic laps (where you breath as few times as you can stand) and then doing sprints I just didn’t want to get out so I kept going. It’s hard to believe that a couple months ago I skipped masters on a regular basis. I can hardly wait to get in the water now.

2). The Ride – I have recently discovered the joys of riding on the trainer while watching a movie. I love multi-tasking like that. Too many things to do and too few hours in which to do them. This is a perfect solution. I’m in the middle of a very good movie so I can hardly wait to get back on the trainer that I have been shirking for weeks and weeks.

3). The Run – When I run I listen to audio books on my iPod. I love that. I’m mostly a fiction junkie and just about any contemporary book and quite a few not so contemporary books worth reading are available in downloadable audio format from audible.com. A good book helps a lot with increasing my mileage but not so much right now because…

4). I live in California. We are not supposed to have winter. There is ice on my car every morning and it is supposed to snow at 1,000 ft or maybe even sea level this weekend. I really, really hope this is just a blip. If I wanted cold I’d move to Canada where I could enjoy their excellent sense of humor while freezing my chimichangas off.

Those Canadians make great movies, too!

Up until Monday it was quite balmy here in Canada. You’d quite enjoy it!

Good to hear that you look forward to doing two of the three disciplines. I am sure the weather will turn soon and you will return to California as usual. For some reason the video cuts out when it gets to the spider who was given alcohol. I am curious to see the rest. The marijuana spider amused me.

I know how the spider on caffiene feels! Great idea to watch a movie on the trainer.

Orrrrr you could try wisconsin, it was a blissful and balmy 20 tonight on the run. But still NO snow on the trails, how great is that! But is a frozen trail softer then Asphalt…hmmmmm

  5. Fe-lady says:

Ha! I can relate about the ice on the car! Isn’t that something I scraped off the windshield when I lived in Ohio???Sounds as if you are enjoying your master’s swim sessions and that you are going to be SO READY for Sharkfest in June! Very cool!

  6. Mother of Chaos says:

Yeah, what IS up with this winter-thing?! We’re supposed to be putting sheets over our citrus trees and watching for busted pipes this weekend?!?!

you are really living the life! the tri-life! Good for you! That swim sounds like torture. But the shower thing, that I can relate to since i am perenially COLD and can never ever get warm. I’ve got the heating pad warming up my bed right now. That last sentence was kind of sad, huh.Great vid. Love the CBC.

  8. Black Knight says:

Are you sure that listening a book helps to run faster? I prefer music. Ahhh the tri, my impossible dream.
