I was looking at an ad for a very swanky, high rise condo building I found on the back cover of the New York Times Sunday Magazine today . The amenities for these condo units include 4 bedrooms (or 3 bedrooms and a library), 3 bathrooms a very generous dining/living area, a gallery (because of course we MUST have a gallery) and a huge kitchen with ‘grown up appliances’ (as opposed to those little wooden ones they have in the kindergarten classroom??)
It also listed an 11,000 sq foot triathlon training center. Seriously. Not a gym. Not a fitness center – a triathlon training center, complete with 3 pools.
I refuse to indulge the negative thoughts I have about this – welcome to the sport wealthy urbanites! It’s a ton of fun. Just please get a little road experience before race day.
(I love what that building does for the little church next to it *cough* . click the small image to get a better view)

Triathlon gets bigger and bigger every year. That’s why it’s so hard to get into races anymore… but good for everyone who wants to try it. I think the people in it are so wholesome and fun. Like us!

18 May 08 at 3:40 pm #EVERYbody is a triathlete or a marathoner now-a-days. But I guess it’s better than being a stoner or a drunk…maybe.

Well that’s cool!
18 May 08 at 4:08 pm #Yeah, i’ve seen that add. Crazy.
And maybe a bit excessive.
Do you think triathlon will be a passing fad, like jogging/marathoning or 10-speed cycling in bygone decades (before I was born)? Or is this sport unique? Will our numbers increase indefinitely, or will it boom and then fade?
18 May 08 at 4:09 pm #Does someone serve venti skinny lattes at poolside?
I guess us po peeps will just have to do it old school style. Like train in the outdoors or something archaic like that.
18 May 08 at 5:33 pm #why not a marathon training facility … treadmills without the 20 minute time limit
19 May 08 at 1:10 am #You live in the future! I am with Don, here we have again the 20 minutes limit and, moreover, few treadmills.
19 May 08 at 1:47 am #Late congrats for your race!

Now we know why the cost of triathlons is so astronomically out of this world.
19 May 08 at 12:10 pm #This isn’t too surprising, really … the folks who are hardcore into triathlon aren’t exactly the food stamp crowd. Lots of disposable income in our demographic.
19 May 08 at 9:29 pm #Um, is it bad that I want to live there?
26 May 08 at 12:38 pm #Hmmm, though, I have to say, I want to live there too!

27 May 08 at 2:40 pm #i have a huge list of people who need road experience. best friends with prams (5 across, nice!), families cycling together (no road rules on the sidewalk, majority rules), dog walkers with leads so that walker is on one side while dog is on other (i heart skipping rope), and mucho mucho more-o.
this should be drilled in sometime. would make so many things better, not only the various thons.
mark shakes his sweat on people. you need to do that. no, wait. you don’t sweat. you’re a… laaaaydeee. you just “glow” on them.
